The agreement God made with Abraham is the original covenant on which all subsequent agreements are based. Surprisingly, God is the only one who makes a pledge. In other words, God was putting His reputation on the line by saying that the fulfilment of the promise was not based on Abraham’s faithfulness but solely on God’s faithfulness.
