Webkirke: A Journey of Faith and Community

It’s hard to believe, but five years have passed since Denmark shut down due to the pandemic, and Web Church (Webkirke) was born as a new digital community. Back then, we started with a simple yet powerful idea: to create a space where faith and fellowship could thrive, even when the world seemed to stand still. We quickly checked if the domain “Web Church” was available, and with that, we launched—a modest website and a program inspired by the familiar worship style of physical churches. Yes, we even included a “offering” section! What began as a temporary solution soon grew into something far greater.

Taking the Leap: From Simple Beginnings to New Ideas

Something beautiful happened as we began producing services—our viewers started engaging with us. Many asked for an “Evening Church” on Fridays, a quiet moment to reflect before the weekend. After some thought, we decided to try it during the Christmas season of that first year (2020). Looking back at those early productions, we can’t help but smile at how much we’ve learned since then. The technical quality and content may have been humble, but we took the leap. And sometimes, that’s all it takes—circumstances push you forward, and something meaningful emerges.

“We gather around the heart of the gospel—a message of hope, love, and togetherness.”

A Journey of Growth and Creativity

Over the past five years, countless individuals have been part of this journey—both in front of and behind the camera. Along the way, we’ve built a rich collection of music and song recordings showcasing talent nationwide. Our content has also evolved significantly. From early formats like “Roundtable Conversation” and “Church Coffee” to newer ones like “Cosy Corner,” “Anchor Thoughts,” and “Studio Guest of the Week,” we’ve embraced change and creativity. Even our intros and editing styles have taken on fresh perspectives. These five years have been a time of transformation, innovation, and, most importantly, community.

A Place to Explore Faith and Find Connection

Today, Web Church has grown into a diverse digital community where we explore faith together and strengthen our connection to God. Here, viewers can share prayer requests in our prayer group, find daily inspiration through “Bible Word of the Day,” or dive deep into the stories of the Bible with our podcast, “The Great Story,” which leads chronologically through the entire Bible. On the first day of every month, exactly at noon, we also send out a newsletter filled with encouragement and hope.

We value maintaining meaningful two-way communication with our viewers, and we’re actively exploring ways to strengthen this connection—perhaps through Zoom or similar platforms.

The Webkirke leadership team is very attentive to connecting with its audience. In the autumn of 2024, Peter Larsen, Communication director for the Danish Union of Churches Conference and Webkirke production manager, shared Webkirke’s core values with GAiN Europe participants.

Open to Everyone: A Message of Hope and Love

Web Church is the vision of the Danish Union of Churches Conference for a digital community that welcomes everyone. Whether an individual already connects with a church, is searching for one, or is simply curious about the Christian faith, there is an open invitation to join Webkirke. We gather around the heart of the gospel—a message of hope, love, and togetherness. No matter your background or where you come from, there’s a place for you here.

Our mission is to create a safe and welcoming space where you can find encouragement and fellowship, even if attending a physical church isn’t possible. We are deeply grateful for the support and prayers we’ve received over the years—they mean the world to us.

Looking Ahead with Hope

In celebrating these five years of mission, we look to the future with hope and a dream: that even more people will discover Web Church and join this growing community of faith. Together with our viewers, we’ll continue to explore, grow, and share the message of love and hope that unites us all as Christians.
