Newbold College of Higher Education has approved the renaming of its Centre for Ministry and Mission to the Department of Theology and Ministry, a move aimed at strengthening its academic structure and aligning with British higher education terminology.

The decision, voted by the College Board, reflects ongoing developments at the institution as it seeks to expand its academic programmes and departments while broadening its overall provision.

College leaders say the new name underscores a dual emphasis on theological scholarship and practical preparation for ministry in a changing global context. The department will continue to focus on equipping students for service within the Seventh-day Adventist Church and wider society.

“The Department of Theology and Ministry remains firmly committed to the ministry and mission of the Church,” wrote Dr Dan Serb, Principal of Newbold College of Higher Education, and Laszlo Gallusz, Head of the Department of Theology and Ministry, in the press release, highlighting its role in training “competent pastors, reflective practitioners, and thoughtful leaders.”

The department also aims to promote academic excellence, integrate faith and learning, and maintain a strong awareness of mission within contemporary culture.

Leaders expressed confidence that the renamed department will continue to contribute meaningfully to the life of the Church, the academic community, and society at large.
