What should church be like after lockdown? Has an ‘enforced’ rest modified the way we look at Sabbath? How about mission? Will we do it differently?

To answer those questions, we invited three guests to join us for TED Words of Hope 10: Sabbath, church, and mission: The post-lockdown view.

Mission
Nenad Jepuranović, TED treasurer, shares how careful planning, revised budgeting, and a focus on the core reason for our existence as a church was reflected in financial decisions taken during the Trans-European Division Spring Executive Committee on Monday, 18 May.

Faith
Zlatko Musija, TED Youth director, thinks back to his childhood and youth. He grew up as an Adventist in communist Yugoslavia. What was the secret to his coming to faith, and how did his faith need to grow in understanding so that, even growing up in a dysfunctional home with an abusive father, he could learn of and accept a perfect, loving, Heavenly Father.

Sabbath delight
How are you spending Sabbath these days? An Adventist friend recently posted a lovely photo of her family having fun out in nature. She wrote, “This new way of doing Sabbath is very much to my liking. True rest for the soul.” Further in the discussion, she said, “I think I let Sabbath and church become just another busy day. That’s going to change.”

Patrick Johnson, TED Ministerial Association secretary, confesses that for him, Sabbath is now a different and more restful experience. It has forced him to reshape his mind.
He explores three key points that will affect him as he heads back, eventually, to a physical church building, and how best he can continue to ‘call the Sabbath a delight’ [Isaiah 58:13].
