Newbold’s Week of Spiritual Emphasis explores accepting change.

From 18-25 September 2021, Newbold College of Higher Education held a very special and long-awaited Week of Spiritual Emphasis (WOSE). After almost two years of restrictions and social distancing, brought by the pandemic of COVID-19, attendees had the opportunity to meet in person and listen to seven speakers explore the topic of change.

Anne-May Muller, Warren Gillin, Filip Milosavljević, Dejan Stojković, Julian Thompson, Danilo Puškaš and Pilira Zapita took turns during the week to share their reflections on dealing with change positively. Additionally, many powerful testimonies were shared, and the students were able to enjoy the music, poetry and interviews that were part of the programme.

“Newbold couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate theme for this semester’s WOSE”, said speaker and Theology alumna, Pilira Zapita. “Not only is the whole world experiencing transition from different sources, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and social unrest, but the College itself is undergoing change… While we all inadvertently find ourselves in this season of tectonic changes… we need to remind ourselves of God’s promise to be especially present with us.”

The week had a profound impact on the students and the Newbold community as a whole. “As we experience seasons of change or earth-shattering moments of life,” Zapita reminded the attendees “…the Holy Spirit is potent enough to settle and give peace through the uncertainty and instability that change can bring.”
