5 July 2015 | San Antonio, Texas, USA [Katie Allen, tedNEWS] Esther Knott, Associate Director for the NAD Ministerial Department, introduced the evening programme, on Sunday, 5 July, with prayer. “We are brothers and sisters making the same journey, in different places.” She appealed to God for help in recommitting ourselves to taking the Gospel to different parts of the world.

Blasious Ruguri, President of the East-Central Africa Division (ECD), stood on stage amongst the regional delegates who were displaying an array of colourful, traditional dress.

He introduced a report that detailed widespread initiatives such as, ‘Young People on the Move’, ‘Educating for Eternity’ and ‘Women in Action’, which have helped in increasing the region’s Church from 2.6 million members, in 2010, to 3.1 million, in 2015.

Between Division reports, the audience enjoyed a musical interlude, from Oksana Kozun, and another informative talk from James Nix, Director of the Ellen G White Estate. Nix led the audience through special stories in the life of William Miller and concluded with an excerpt from, ‘The Midnight Cry’, December 5, 1844, that was published after the Great Disappointment.

The text exemplified Miller’s readiness to take mocking from people if it meant that God had provided more time for people to be saved. “Although I have been twice disappointed, I am not yet cast down or discouraged…I have fixed my mind upon another time, and here I mean to stand until God gives me more light.”

President of the Euro-Asia Division (ESD), Guillermo Biaggi, shared a video report, focused on the theme, ‘Time To Act’. It explained that many of the ESD countries, having emerged from years of strict Communist rule, are difficult to evangelise in because of various limitations, such as legal restrictions on church activity outside the church buildings.

This has lead to personal evangelism being the only way forward in some areas, as outreach outside of the church needs to be taken to the next step. The video detailed how strides have been made in some areas and gave examples of a four-storey building, created in Minsk over 45 days, that has become a spiritual centre of influence, as well as the conversion of two conference buildings into Adventist elementary schools.
