20 August 2014 | Belgrade, Serbia [Pavle Trajkovski, tedNEWS] Dreams don’t come true too often. And when they do, it is usually the result of hard work and a series of failures. But every once in a while, God blesses us with a gift that restores our faith in miracles.
For many Adventists in the South-East European Union, seeing the Heritage Singers live in concert was a dream come true. During the period of socialist Yugoslavia, bootlegged cassettes, bearing the signature sound of the Heritage Singers, were the only source of recorded Christian music in countless households. This sound was passed on to the next generation and was given a greater value – it became a blueprint for music groups, bands and praise teams across the region. Understanding the heritage of the Heritage Singers in this part of the world is necessary in order to appreciate the importance of their live performance in Belgrade.
On 16th August 2014, the Heritage Singers gave a concert in the famous Sava Centre in Belgrade, Serbia. The venue was packed, since little bit less than 4,000 visitors came to see them. Buses started coming in as early as 13:00, even though the concert was scheduled for 19:00. What followed was an evening of excellent music, powerful testimonies, full-hearted praise and tears of joy. Everyone in the building was touched and blessed. In addition, this concert blessed even people who weren’t present, as a fundraising took place to help the victims of the recent floods that happened in Serbia.
Heritage Singers’ concert in Belgrade wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for the good will of Nena and Kika Dedi?, a couple from Chicago. While at a Heritage Singers concert in Chicago, they were inspired to fund and organise a concert in Belgrade. Thanks to their generous contribution, the dreams of many people came true.
At the end of the concert, Max Mace, the founder and leader of the Heritage Singers thanked God, the sponsors and the audience for the special, blessed evening. He made a promise to everyone present that they will all sing together again, if not in Belgrade, then surely in Heaven. [tedNEWS]
