3 December 2015 | Bracknell, United Kingdom [Kirsty Watkins] Newbold College of Higher Eductation recently welcomed alumnus Pastor Jude Jeanville to its Recruitment, Marketing and Sales team. Pastor Jeanville, who is a great supporter of Adventist education, completed a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry at Newbold, and went on to minister in the Barnsley, Halifax, York and Bradford, Wolverhampton, and Tamworth districts before taking up his post in Trinidad in 2007. He commenced a Doctor of Ministry in preaching at Andrews University in 2010, later transferring to North Park University (Chicago, USA) where he will defend his thesis in March 2016. Pastor Jeanville said that his theological training and passion for ministry are not incompatible with promoting Adventist education. Quoting Ellen G. White he said that, “The work of Christian education and redemption are one.”

Pastor Jeanville is excited about his new role, and the prospect of promoting the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy of education as a means of developing Christian character, saving families, and qualifying persons for a life of service both in and outside of Church employment. “There are many ways of bringing and guarding souls for Christ,” he said, “and Adventist education is one of those ways.”

He believes that Christian universities are particularly important because they provide a safe, supportive environment. “Students’ thinking is challenged during their university years, and they face a great deal of peer pressure”, said Pastor Jeanville. “At Adventist institutions they are surrounded by those who have dedicated their lives to Adventist education and the ideals it supports.”

Pastor Jeanville gratefully acknowledges the financial and lifestyle sacrifices his own parents made to secure Seventh-day Adventist education for their children. “Christian education does not cost,” he said, “it saves!”

What does he hope for the future? “It is my wish that Newbold be desired, owned, cherished, and above all be relevant to the members of the Church for whom it was intended”, he said. He will be working on reciprocal relationships and partnerships between Newbold, Church leaders, churches, and individual members and families. “My vision is that in three years’ time, 50 of the 260 churches in the British Union Conference alone will be sponsoring at least one student for a degree at Newbold. We must be intentional about saving our families, our communities and our institutions”, he added.

Newbold College of Higher Education is the senior higher education institution in the Trans-European Division and continues to be at the forefront of shaping thought, training leaders, envisioning the future of the Church in Europe, while fostering invaluable partnerships further afield with Latin America, North America, Hong Kong, Japan and Africa. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Theology, undergraduate degrees in Business Studies and Liberal Arts, and has a strong programme in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
