2 July 2015 San Antonio, Texas, USA [Victor Hulbert, tedNEWS] Thursday morning broke fresh and bright! The 15-minute walk to the Alamodome from the Convention centre was refreshing in the balmy 23C breeze. The security guards and hosts made life easy and friendly. San Antonio is a very hospital place.

Yet it is inside the dome that life gets exciting. It is worth being there early. Live music fills the hall for thirty minutes before the morning devotional. Adventist soloists, instrumentalists and groups are praising God and preparing delegates and visitors for ‘the Word’.

‘The Word for that opening service came from Trans-European Division Evangelism director, Janos Kovacs-Biro. Using the session theme, ‘Arise! Shine! Jesus is Coming!’ he highlighted the issue of trust in terms of Jesus’ Second Advent. He noted that almost the whole of the New Testament can be summed up in the promise that Jesus is coming again.

Quoting the promise of John 14:1-6, “Do not let your hearts be troubled”, he emphasised that we can trust in the presence of Jesus.   He emphasised that “the word of God gives us reassurance in providing our destination.”

Janos is a story teller. He mixed stories about children trusting their parents, with Biblical traditions of marriage preparation to highlight Jesus’ promise, “the house is now big enough, bring your bride home.”

“Do you trust the person of Jesus?” Janos asked. He then emphasised that when you know him as a friend you will have faith in his promises.”

By nature Janos is an evangelist so even in a delegation of committed Adventists prepared to do serious business for God he concluded with a double challenge: “What have you done with my Son Jesus Christ? What you with done with the gifts he has given you?

Food for thought as the delegates moved from worship to business. [tedNEWS]
