15 January 2019 | Warsaw, Poland [Marek Rakowski]

Following the Sunday evening stabbing and subsequent death of Gdańsk mayor, Mr Paweł Adamowicz at the climax of a charity concert, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Poland has issued the following statement:

PUC Pawel Adamowicz Gdansk MayorThe crime committed on 13 January 2019 in Gdańsk shook not only Gdańsk, but the entire community of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Republic of Poland.

On behalf of the entire church family, the Administrative Committee of the Adventist Church in Poland wishes to express solidarity in pain and sadness with all the inhabitants of Gdańsk, the Mayor’s team, and above all, with friends and family of Mayor Adamowicz.

The church is currently involved in an annual period of “10 days of prayer” that commenced at the beginning of the New Year. As the programme is currently underway, the Administrative Committee calls on all fellow believers participating in this programme to uphold the family of Mayor Adamowicz in their prayers. Let us ask our Lord, Jesus Christ, that in these difficult times he would help the family to endure their great pain. We also call on the church family to pray for restoring balance in the social and political dialogue in our homeland and for mutual respect between all participants in this dialogue, regardless of any differences between them.

Our Saviour, Jesus Christ, gave his life so that we would live today with the hope of His second coming and the restoration of true justice. Until then, we call on our entire society here in Poland to renounce all violence, including verbal violence, to preserve peace and devote the next few days to deep reflection.

We also commit to be an example ourselves.

On behalf of the Administrative Committee,

Pastor Marek Rakowski

Secretary
