Adventist Mission in Orthodox Cultures Conference

The Adventist mission is thrilled to announce the organization of a global Orthodox Cultures Conference in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
The conference will take place between 26th – 28th November 2024. This event promises to be a dynamic platform for cultural exchange and dialogue. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with prominent speakers, explore traditional practices, and foster mutual understanding.

Who is the Conference for?

Join together with pastors, elders, church members, professors and students for this global conference to create greater missional awareness, build relationships across multiple countries, develop resources, and be a platform to plant new groups.

What is the purpose of the Conference?

This is a collaborative initiative between the Trans-European Division (TED), Inter-European Division (EUD), Ukraine Mission, and Euro-Asia Division (ESD) and General Conference (GC) Office of Adventist Mission in order to create greater awareness of Eastern Orthodoxy as a mission field, build relationships with others from
multiple countries committed to this challenge, and serve as a platform to develop resources, research, and practical strategies to plant new groups of believers.

When does it start and when do I need to arrive in Plovdiv?

The Conference starts Tuesday morning 26th November 2024. It is advisable that you arrive the day before on Monday 25th November. Airport shuttle buses from and to Sophia airport will be available for all participants (please discuss with your local field regarding costs

When does it finish?

The Conference will conclude on Thursday 28th November at 14:30. The shuttle bus will take participants from the hotel to Sofia airport. Please allow 4 hours for transfer and airport check-in.

Can I stay an extra night?

Participants choosing to stay Thursday night and depart Friday can do so with the hotel but will bear the extra cost for that night and dinner which are not included in the quoted price.

Can my spouse attend the Conference with me, and can I bring my children?

You are welcome to bring your spouse as we have reserved double rooms too, so please indicate your preference while registering. There are only a couple of family rooms, and you would need to contact us privately and in advance. Family members will be charged an amount per day for meals (babies excluded) and any additional costs including flight tickets, airport transfers, additional rooms, etc are your responsibility.
If you would like to bring your children, please note that unfortunately there will be no supervision provided for children.

Which airport do I book my flights to and from?

It is advisable that you book your flights to and from Sofia airport as provisions for airport transfers will be organised only for Sofia airport. If you wish to fly to a different airport, airport transfers must be organised and funded personally.

Who funds my flights, transfers, and accommodation?

Due to multiple Unions and Divisions involved in this Conference, the financial responsibility for travel, transportation (except airport transfers as outlined above), and accommodation is the decision of each respective field. Please note that unless you have made arrangements
with your Union/ local field, by completing this registration you as an individual will be billed for the costs of the conference.

Will I be able to get a printed copy of my registration form so as to double check my details after completion?

Unfortunately, it will not be possible for participants to print a copy of their registration form once they complete the process. Therefore, please be extra careful to include all the correct data including personal, passport/ID details, VISA and flight details. If you need to change

Where can I get a copy of the programme?

A website for the conference is being developed at www.adventismandorthodoxy.com where you will be able to find detailed information about the Conference’s programme and all the other important components of it. You will also receive a group email before the event with more details including presentations, table discussions and connecting times, local cultural tour, etc.

Will there be any excursions during the Conference to explore Plovdiv?

On Wednesday afternoon, an excursion to the old city of Plovdiv will be organised with a tour guide including visit to a local Orthodox Church (price included with registration).
