23 May 2016 | Nicosia, Cyprus [Marica Mirilov] Members and friends of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cyprus were reminded to bring their passports to worship on Sabbath, 23 April 2016. The border of the last divided city in the world was crossed and more than 200 Sabbath-keepers were united across the border, from the North and South.

Cyprus-joint-DOFCyprus has been a divided island since a Turkish occupation of the northern part of the island in 1974. This then was an historic Sabbath, morning worship crossing the divide and seeing the largest gathering in the church’s century-long presence on the Island.

Moses Elmadjian, 91, is a grandson of the first Adventist on this biblical island. Joined by his wife, son and grandson, he was moved to tears. “I thoroughly enjoyed an extremely uplifting worship, student choir of a professional quality, and fellowship that followed,” he stated.

The day was more than worship and fellowship. It also provided an opportunity for many in the group to visit places associated with the work and ministry of Paul and Barnabas, and to commit their lives to the same calling of those first Christian missionaries. [tedNEWS]
