7 April 2017 | Stockholm [Rainer Refsb\u00e4ck] Once again, Europe has suffered a cowardly terrorist attack in which innocent people have been mown down by a hijacked vehicle, this time in central Stockholm. The Union office of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Stockholm Central Adventist Church is located only just over a block from Drottninggatan, Stockholm\u2019s main pedestrian street, where the stolen truck hit and killed at least four and injured a number of others during the Friday afternoon attack on 7 April.<\/p>\n

[Photo: Rainer Refsb\u00e4ck]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\u201cThe Adventist Church strongly condemns the attack on our freedom that we\u2019ve experienced today in Stockholm,\u201d Union President G\u00f6ran Hansen said in a statement. \u201cThis is a new and tragic reminder that we live in a world where extremists can, in an instant, turn a pleasant spring walk on a pedestrian street into chaos and nightmare. We mourn with those who today lost a dear family member, colleague or friend and we pray for their comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n

Employees at the union office, and other Adventists who work in central Stockholm, pass Drottninggatan every day to and from work. The Union office is aware that many Adventists were in the area at the time of the attack. However, as far as they are aware, none were hurt.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead of panicking, we will renew our conviction and zeal to spread hope for a better world together with our Lord and God,\u201d Hansen added.<\/p>\n

The attack in Stockholm comes just two weeks after a similar event in Westminster, central London. As a church, we are also very conscious of tragedy in Syria, in Russia, recently with Coptic Churches in Egypt, and acts of needless aggression in too many parts of the world. We pray for all those affected and stand by that much larger group of people who work tirelessly to reduce suffering and strife, and who work for peaceful resolutions to conflict.<\/p>\n

At the time of the Westminster attack, Rafaat Kamal, president of the Trans- European Division, said: \u201cWe do not let acts like this defeat us, but rather we feel more compelled to share the love of God that can touch and transform all lives.\u201d [ted<\/em>NEWS]<\/p>\n
