{"id":529,"date":"2014-09-01T09:50:15","date_gmt":"2014-09-01T09:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ted.adventist.org\/sitenews\/2014\/09\/01\/ten-best-bible-stories-in-the-netherlands\/"},"modified":"2014-09-01T09:50:15","modified_gmt":"2014-09-01T09:50:15","slug":"ten-best-bible-stories-in-the-netherlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ted.adventist.org\/news\/ten-best-bible-stories-in-the-netherlands\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten Best Bible Stories in the Netherlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rtejustify\"><span style=\"color: #696969;\"><a href=\"..\/sites\/default\/files\/10_most_popular_bible_stories2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>27 February 2014<span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial; line-height: 13.679999351501465px; font-size: 12px;\">\u00a0| Meppel, The Netherlands [Rudy Dingjan and Judy Plaatjes, <em>ted<\/em>NEWS]\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Most people in the Netherlands know something about the Bible and have a favourite story they can recall from childhood.\u00a0 So in 2013, nine Christian denominations, including the local Seventh-day Adventist church, in Meppel, Netherlands decided to join hands and conduct a survey in malls, schools and streets throughout the city to find out from people what the ten most popular Bible stories were.\u00a0 2,100 people filled in questionnaires which were counted and the results compiled into a list that was shared with each of the participating churches. The idea was that at the beginning of every month, the story of the month would be announced and all of the local churches in the city would focus their sermons on that particular story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\"><a href=\"..\/sites\/default\/files\/1o_most_popular_bible_stories.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-right\" style=\"width: 180px; height: 120px;\" src=\"..\/sites\/default\/files\/1o_most_popular_bible_stories.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>The churches have dedicated one of their church services each month to the \u201cStory of the Month\u201d and in September 2013 they started with the story in the tenth place:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ruth+1-4&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruth<\/a>. The next month saw the story of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Judges+13-16&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Samson<\/a> being told, followed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+10:25-37\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Good Samaritan<\/a>,\u00a0and in December, the story of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Samuel+17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David and Goliath<\/a> was shared. 2014 started with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+1-2%3A4&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">story of Creation<\/a>, followed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+2-3&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moses&#8217;<\/a> story and in the coming month of March, they will concentrate on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke%2015%3A11-32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Prodigal Son<\/a>.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">The monthly discussion nights about the stories take place just across from where the Adventist congregation meets each Saturday.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">The grand closure of the series will take place in June this year with a central feast and many features.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Adventist involvement in this project is strong. PR is in the hands of Hanneke Tan-Koning who sends out monthly newsletters, in which the Seventh-day Adventist services are always mentioned.
