{"id":470,"date":"2014-09-01T08:55:30","date_gmt":"2014-09-01T08:55:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ted.adventist.org\/sitenews\/2014\/09\/01\/newbold-college-awards-ceremony-2013\/"},"modified":"2014-09-01T08:55:30","modified_gmt":"2014-09-01T08:55:30","slug":"newbold-college-awards-ceremony-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ted.adventist.org\/news\/newbold-college-awards-ceremony-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Newbold College &#8211; Awards Ceremony 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rtejustify\"><span style=\"color: #696969;\"><a href=\"..\/sites\/default\/files\/staff-and-graduands.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>04 June 2013 Bracknell, United Kingdom [Kirsty Watkins]\u00a0<\/span>The academic success of twenty-nine students from Newbold College of Higher Education was celebrated on Sunday, 2 June 2013 at the College\u2019s Awards Ceremony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">The Mayor of Bracknell Forest, Councillor Mrs Jan Angell, and other local politicians joined over 300 staff, alumni and friends of the College at the ceremony in the Newbold Church entre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">These students, who represent 17 different countries, have successfully completed the requirements for the College\u2019s programmes in business, arts and humanities, media arts, and theology, which are offered in partnership with a number of international Seventh-day Adventist education providers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Dr Friedbert Ninow (Rector) and Dr Johannes Hartlapp (Dean of Theology) represented Theologische Hochschule Friedensau \u2013 the Seventh-day Adventist state-accredited higher education institution in Germany \u2013 and attended the ceremony to celebrate the first graduates from the partnership between Newbold and Friedensau.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\"><a href=\"..\/sites\/default\/files\/principal-and-guest-speaker.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-right-hascaption\" style=\"width: 280px; height: 187px;\" title=\"[photo by Roland Dan - l to r] Mrs Sharyn Brown, Dr Philip Brown (Principal), Mrs Debra Blews, and Dr Edward O. Blews Jr (guest speaker).\" src=\"..\/sites\/default\/files\/principal-and-guest-speaker.jpg\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" \/><\/a>The guest speaker was Dr Edward O. Blews Jr, President of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, an association of Christian institutions with 116 member campuses in the USA and 69 affiliate campuses (of which Newbold is one) in 25 countries outside the USA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Dr Blews addressed the audience on the theme Carpe Diem (loosely translated as Seize the Day), and shared Christ\u2019s own eternal perspective from Matthew 6.33-34: \u2018Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you \u2026 Do not worry about tomorrow \u2026 Each day has enough trouble of its own.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Dr Blews reminded the graduating students that God is calling them into a waiting world, playing on the College\u2019s name in urging them to \u2018go forth with \u201cNew Boldness\u201d in serving Christ and in serving humanity \u2013 His creation. The world awaits \u2013 seize the day to which God calls you,\u2019 he urged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Dr Philip Brown (Principal); Dr John Baildam (Deputy Principal); Pastor Patrick Johnson (Senior Pastor, Newbold Church); and Dr Daniel Duda (Director of Education, Trans-European Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church) were among those who participated in the ceremony as part of the platform party.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Newbold College of Higher Education is a member of the Seventh-day Adventist higher education network and is located in Binfield, Berkshire, UK.
