{"id":379,"date":"2014-08-29T09:19:56","date_gmt":"2014-08-29T09:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ted.adventist.org\/sitenews\/2014\/08\/29\/a-herculean-task-done-well\/"},"modified":"2014-08-29T09:19:56","modified_gmt":"2014-08-29T09:19:56","slug":"a-herculean-task-done-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ted.adventist.org\/news\/a-herculean-task-done-well\/","title":{"rendered":"A Herculean task, done well!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rtejustify\"><span style=\"color: #696969;\">22 August 2012, Roga\u0161ka Slatina, Slovenia\u00a0[Julian Hibbert,\u00a0<em style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px;\">ted<\/em>NEWS]<\/span>\u00a0Greek mythology has bequeathed the idea of the \u201cHerculean task\u201d to the English language, and the term is now used to describe a task that is unusually difficult to perform.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\"><a href=\"..\/sites\/default\/files\/Dr.Laurence_Turner(1).jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>Dr Laurence Turner, of Newbold College, undertook such a task during this morning\u2019s worship session at the European Pastors\u2019 Conference: he preached to hundreds of preachers \u2013 and had our attention throughout!<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">I know that you will want to listen to it, so we won\u2019t spoil you with too much prior information, just enough to whet your appetite.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Dr Turner started with an interesting comparison between two of God\u2019s great \u201cmountaineers\u201d \u2013 both of whom joined Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. He then sketched Elijah\u2019s spiritual journey from Carmel to Horeb (Mt. Sinai). A pilgrimage that took him into the same cave \u2013 \u201ccleft in the rock\u201d \u2013 that sheltered Moses when God passed by.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">According to Turner, God spoke to Moses through the spectacular: earthquake, noise and fire. But although Elijah\u2019s senses are also assaulted by such spectacular, awesome displays of light and sound, God speaks to him in a radically different way than He spoke to Moses \u2013 in a \u201cgentle whisper\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Well, that\u2019s enough.
