20 September 2011 Oslo Norway<\/strong><\/span> [Tor Tjernanen, ted<\/em>NEWS] The president of the General Conference, Pastor Ted N. C. Wilson, offered his condolences to the people of Norway in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks when he visited Oslo as the main speaker at a fellowship weekend on September 16. and 17. ‘I have personally prayed for the bereaved families, the King and the government of Norway,’ said Pastor Wilson to an audience of 700 Adventists who had gathered for the annual fellowship week-end in Oslo.<\/p>\n

This was Wilson\u2019s third visit to the Trans-European area of the Seventh-day Adventist church this year. Wilson talked about the difficulties of witnessing in a very secularized and sophisticated society. ‘I want to personally do whatever I can to help spread the gospel in this area,’ said Wilson at the beginning of his Sabbath morning sermon. The sermon focused on essential elements of the Seventh-day Adventist identity. Wilson referred to the two identifying characteristics of God\u2019s end-time church as given in Rev 12,17, namely \u201ckeep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ\u201d and urged church members to do their part in fulfilling the God-given mission entrusted to the Seventh-day Adventist Church.<\/p>\n

Wilson exhorted the congregation to ‘keep the Word of God central’ in their lives with a focus on Christ and his righteousness.<\/p>\n

Sabbath evening Wilson answered questions on topics ranging from the ordination of women, via ecumenical issues to the Great Controversy project.<\/p>\n

‘I am impressed with the way Pastor Wilson handled the various questions in the Q & A session,’ commented Pastor Rolf Andvik, President of the East-Norway Conference. We are very happy that Pastor Wilson was able to come and visit Norway, and we would like to see him back soon, said Andvik after the meetings.<\/p>\n

Wilson was accompanied to Oslo by his wife, Nancy, and the president of the Seventh-day Adventist church in the Trans-European area, Pastor Bertil Wiklander. The event was televised through a co-production of Hope Channel Norway and LifeStyleTV, and transmitted live on LifeStyleTV and on the Internet.
