It equips readers to create content that helps people discover Jesus and take their next steps in faith.

Dario Kovačević, Hope Channel Croatia Director and the author of the book, said the idea for it grew out of his own experience learning YouTube without clear resources or structured training. “When I started with YouTube, there were almost no practical resources available, no books, no clear instructions, no real guidance,” he said. “I wanted to help accelerate other people’s progress and enable them to reach more people effectively with the message of the gospel.”

Through years of creating content, conducting workshops and mentoring others, Kovačević recognised a growing need for practical, accessible instruction. The result is a book that seeks to simplify the process and help readers avoid many of the challenges he encountered while learning the platform.

For Kovačević, YouTube is more than a communication tool. He views it as a mission field where churches can engage people who may never walk through the doors of a church building. “I honestly don’t see a more effective way today to reach people than through digital platforms,” he said. “The Great Commission calls us to go to all nations, and today all nations are already gathered online.”

Through his YouTube ministry, Kovačević reaches thousands of viewers with Bible-based content and practical answers to questions about faith and life

His ministry experience has shown how digital evangelism can create meaningful connections long before people attend an evangelistic meeting or local congregation. He explained that many people who attend his meetings already know him through online content, creating familiarity and trust that often leads to deeper spiritual conversations.

According to Kovačević, digital ministry has also contributed to growth in the local church where he serves. What began as a congregation of around 15 regular attendees has grown to around 40, sometimes reaching 60, while prayer meeting attendance has grown from four to 20, with many first encountering the church through online content.

At the same time, he emphasises that digital outreach cannot replace personal ministry. “Digital evangelism combined with prayer and personal ministry leads to real and lasting results,” he said.

The book also challenges churches to rethink how they use YouTube. Rather than treating the platform as an archive for recorded sermons, Kovačević encourages churches to create content that addresses the questions people are already asking about life, faith, purpose and current events.

He believes many churches are missing opportunities to expand their reach through simple improvements such as stronger titles, more engaging thumbnails and the strategic use of short-form video content. Existing sermons, he argues, can often be repurposed into shorter clips that connect with audiences who would never watch a full-length service.

One of the central themes of Secrets of YouTube is accessibility. Kovačević encourages churches and individuals not to be discouraged by limited resources, noting that many already possess the tools needed to begin. “The key is to start and grow along the way,” he said. “Most people already have the basic equipment they need. Even a simple smartphone is enough to begin.”

Members of Dario Kovačević’s local congregation gather for worship

The book also challenges readers to rethink how success is measured. While views and subscriber counts can be useful indicators, Kovačević believes genuine impact is found in changed lives.

He said one of the most encouraging developments is hearing from people in areas where there is little or no Adventist presence. Many have contacted his team, asking where to find a Seventh-day Adventist church and expressing a desire to be baptised and become part of the Adventist faith community.

For Kovačević, these responses demonstrate the potential of digital platforms to connect people with local churches and support long-term spiritual growth.

He hopes that readers will do more than simply finish the book. “I want every reader to realise that it is possible to do great things for God, and that this is an incredible opportunity available to anyone,” he said. “The secrets of YouTube are revealed so that the secrets of heaven can be known to everyone.”

Secrets of YouTube, published by Stanborough Press, is available now in print through LifeSource Christian Bookshop.
