Nearly 3,000 children, parents, staff and volunteers gathered in Katowice, Poland, on April 11 for the annual Trans-European Division (TED) Adventurer and Pathfinder Bible Experience finals. The programme encouraged children and teenagers to deepen their understanding of Scripture through team-based study and Bible testing, with participants competing in Adventurer and Pathfinder categories focused on the Book of Isaiah.<\/p>\n

The programme was divided into two Sabbath sessions. In the morning, 62 Adventurer teams from 10 countries participated in the Bible quiz. Alongside teams from across Europe, the event also welcomed one visiting team from the United States and three online teams from Kenya. Forty-eight teams achieved first-place recognition after demonstrating strong knowledge of Isaiah. Lucy Corbyn, an Adventurer Club teacher from the United States, described the event as a meaningful experience for her group, explaining that their home division currently offers only the Pathfinder Bible Experience programme.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, 138 Pathfinder teams representing 16 countries took part in the Bible quiz, including participants from Europe, the United States, Uganda and Kenya. Several teams joined remotely. Competitors answered 90 questions based on the first 33 chapters of Isaiah within the two-hour session. Seventy-eight teams received first-place recognition, reflecting the level of preparation and commitment among participants.<\/p>\n

The Pathfinder Bible Experience was originally developed by the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church before being adopted by the South England Conference (SEC), UK, in 2014 and by the TED in 2019.<\/p>\n

Throughout the day, the atmosphere remained energetic and celebratory. The opening ceremonies for both sessions featured the North England Conference, UK, Drill and Drum Corps, followed by a welcome and prayer from Pastor Piotr Bylina, Polish Union Conference Executive Secretary. Pastor Kevin Johns, TED Associate Youth Ministries Director, also welcomed participants.<\/p>\n

Praise and worship were led by the host Pathfinder group, Loading<\/em>, whose name reflects their belief that they remain in a constant state of loading while awaiting Christ\u2019s return. Although English is not their first language, the group spent months preparing to sing in English.<\/p>\n

During a livestream interview, Judy Plaatjes-McKie, TED Youth Ministries department personal assistant, highlighted the extensive preparation required for the annual event. \u201cThe planning for the next TED PBE\/ABE starts a year before the event has even taken place,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The programme also included an evangelistic outreach component. Pathfinders from the Filipino International Seventh-day Adventist Church in the SEC, visited Katowice city centre, where they sang and distributed 500 books and 3,000 pieces of literature. \u201cIt was a great opportunity to reach out; we are praying for those people who received the literature,\u201d said May, a participant from the church.<\/p>\n

Pastor Kevin Johns said the Bible Experience programme is designed to help young people build a personal relationship with Jesus through Scripture memorisation and study.\u00a0\u201cThe purpose of ABE and PBE is that as their understanding and memory retention of Scripture increases, our Adventurers and Pathfinders connect with Jesus on a personal level and, in so doing, make a decision to give their life to Jesus,\u201d Johns said. \u201cIt has been reported that to date 65 Pathfinders across the British Union Conference have given their lives to Jesus and requested baptism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before the event concluded, organisers announced that the next TED Adventurer and Pathfinder Bible Experience finals will take place in the United Kingdom and will focus on books from the New Testament.<\/p>\n

Organisers also expressed appreciation to the Adventist Church in Poland for hosting the event and providing the personnel and resources needed to support the entirety of the programme.<\/p>\n
