Alamodome, San Antonio<\/figcaption><\/figure>While preparations continue for the start of the 60th<\/sup> General Conference (GC) Session, in San Antonio, Texas, Pastor Kamal expressed the same sentiment as many delegates and attendees from across the world. Already looking toward the next General Conference Session, in 2020, Pastor Kamal highlighted the importance of preparing for the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis week is actually a learning experience for me\u201d, he continued. \u201cWe will be starting from 6am with meetings each day, running through to the evening, but I look at it as a time for celebration. Celebration of God\u2019s goodness for the last five years and also looking forward to new ideas for the future. We pray for 20\/20 vision to create a powerful vision for the next Session, in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n

This thought, in sync with the theme for GC Session, 2015, \u2018Shine! Arise! Jesus is Coming!\u2019, appeared to be at the forefront of many people\u2019s minds, as registration for the global Divisions commenced on Wednesday, 1 July. Others, however, were focused on more practical issues.<\/p>\n

Footpath to Alamodome<\/figcaption><\/figure>Lydia Sterling, accompanying a delegate for the TED, had already settled into her hotel room when she found out it was a 26-minute walk to the Alamodome, where the majority of the larger meetings will be held throughout the next ten days.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt might be best for me to just stay at the dome all day long!\u201d said the humorous Lydia. \u201cFood, rest and the social side of things are going to have to be sacrificed in the name of staying conscious and beating any form of heatstroke. On the other hand, I could always order food to be delivered to my seat in the auditorium. The Adventist Book Centre delivers, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

Seventh-day Adventists in San Antonio<\/figcaption><\/figure>With around 65,000 Session attendees expected to descend upon downtown San Antonio, the city has already geared up for the masses. Providing pedestrian sun shelters, on the pavements from the main hotels to the Alamodome, is just one of the provisions.<\/p>\n

Many city officials and residents are intrigued with the upcoming GC Session, having witnessed their own taste of Seventh-day Adventist activities during a recent free \u2018mega clinic\u2019, in the Alamodome, in April 2015, where 1,700 medical volunteers came to help those in need in the area.<\/p>\n

The care provided, over the clinic\u2019s three days, came to an equivalent of $20 million in health care expenses, with thousands of locals seeking help and advice.<\/p>\n

Lara Croure, who works nearby the Alamodome, recalled people queuing for health checks from the day before the clinic opened. She highlighted how seeing an organisation do that for free, whoever they are, makes her want to learn more about them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what else to expect this week, and the next, with all your people from around the world, but I can tell you right now that everyone coming to this conference has a lot to live up to\u201d, said Lara. \u201cOur people are expecting the best from y\u2019all because of our experience with the clinic. Whatever you\u2019re doing, make us San Antonions proud!\u201d<\/p>\n
